Romanos House
Architecturally, the island of Tinos is defined by its imposing alabaster buildings that mix the classic Cycladic architecture influences with the works of some of the best Greek sculptors and artists of the 19th and 20th century, such as Yannoulis Halepas, Nikolaos Gyzis, Nikoforos Lytras. Stone-paved narrow streets and whitewashed traditional houses, compose a picturesque environment that is enchanted by an ever-present feeling of a holy serenity. After all, the special connection of Tinos with religion is not a secret: The Great Church of Evangelistria (Our Lady of Good Tidings) in the capital town is perhaps the best known landmark of the island. Every year, on the 15th of August, thousands of pilgrims arrive to kneel before the sacred icon of Mother Mary and seek comfort in its grace. Their extraordinary show of faith and devotion is something truly worth witnessing by every spiritual person, regardless of religious beliefs.
Unlike its far more popular neighbor (Mykonos), Tinos does not offer exciting nights and a vibrant nightlife to its visitors. Instead, the key reasons for visiting Tinos are its architectural splendor, spiritual rejuvenation and immaculate beaches that have been untouched by the tourist industry. Tinos is a special island, that is perhaps best suited to special travelers. Sprawling villages throughout the island, each more beautiful than the last are waiting to be discovered, while you take a break in one of the many sun-kissed beaches.
